12 STEP MEETINGS

If you are new to the 12-step programs, you may have some questions.   Here are some of the ones we hear most often:

  • Is there a charge to attend A.A./N.A. meetings?
    • No, there is no charge, but as each group is self supporting, donations are appreciated.
  • What does closed meeting mean?
    • Closed meetings are for A.A. / N.A. members only, or for those who have an alcohol or substance problem and "have a desire to stop."
    • Open meetings are available to anyone interested in the 12-step program of recovery from alcoholism or addiction. Nonalcoholics/non-addicts may attend open meetings as observers, but are asked to not speak out, other than introductions.
  • What does Unity Group / Welcome Home Downriver / Sunday Recovery mean?
    • Each group within the 12-step programs have their own names.  These are the names of some of the groups that meet at our facility.

If you have questions that were not answered here, the best thing to do is to attend a meeting, to get a better feel for how things are run.  You can see on the calendar link at the top of the page, there are many times throughout each day that meetings are held.  If you still have questions, please feel free to call us at (313) 381-9782
